Annie & Alex | A Miami Wedding at The Glass Venue

Weddings

A Catholic ceremony under the palms and a night at The Glass Venue in Miami — Annie and Alex's wedding, photographed as second shooter alongside Jonathan Clement of JDaveVisuals.

Annie and Alex were married on a bright December morning in Miami — a Catholic Mass in a church shaded by royal palms, and then a night at The Glass Venue that ran until the waterfall was the brightest thing left.

I photographed this one as a second shooter alongside Jonathan Clement of JDaveVisuals, who led the day. Second shooting is its own job. The lead owns the moment everyone came to see; my work is the frame they cannot be in — the reaction two rows back, the room while every other camera is pointed at the couple, the groomsman fixing someone else's bow tie.

What follows is the day roughly as it ran.

The Glass Venue

The reception moved to The Glass Venue in west Miami-Dade, about fifteen minutes from the airport and a long way in feel from a hotel ballroom. The buildings are wrapped floor to ceiling in glass, so the gardens stay in view from every seat and the rooms hold the last of the daylight rather than shutting it out.

The grounds are built around a hundred-foot waterfall planted with koi. After dark the whole wall lights up behind the sweetheart table, and dinner ran under the palms beside it — a violinist at the water's edge, a mirrored dance floor doubling everything above it. For a photographer it is a rare thing: a room that is still giving you light at nine at night.

Congratulations to Annie and Alex — and thanks to Jonathan for having me along. If you are planning your own night at The Glass Venue, the venue page has the curfew, the light for your date and what to ask their coordinator.
